Reuse keeps a tire in service
A tire that is still suitable for its intended use may be resold, retreaded or otherwise reused when it meets applicable safety and market requirements. Condition and intended application matter; reuse is not appropriate for every tire.
Separate reusable tires from scrap only when the buyer or receiving partner has confirmed what it accepts.
Recycling recovers material
Processing can turn tires into material streams such as rubber, steel and textile, depending on the facility and process. Recovered materials may be used in different products or applications when they meet the relevant specifications.
End markets vary. Ask the processor or service provider what type of recovery pathway is available for a particular shipment.
Disposal should be documented
When reuse or recycling is not available for a specific load, the destination and handling should still follow applicable rules. State requirements can distinguish between carriers, processors, sorters and final destinations.
Ask for clear pickup and closeout records, and verify current state requirements through the relevant environmental agency.
