Collection starts with clear information
Before a pickup, identify the site, approximate volume and tire types. Passenger tires, truck tires and large off-road tires take different space and handling effort. Sharing those details helps a hauler plan equipment, access and timing.
At collection, the tires are counted or otherwise documented as required for the shipment. Keep the business’s copy of pickup paperwork with its service records so the removal can be traced later.
Sorting and processing depend on the destination
At an approved facility, tires may be inspected, sorted, prepared for reuse, or processed to recover materials. Mechanical processing can separate rubber from steel and textile components. Other permitted operations may prepare tires or tire-derived material for a particular end use.
Not every tire follows the same path, and no single end market is guaranteed for every load. Ask the receiving facility or service provider how the material is handled.
Keep the chain of custody clear
Generators can support responsible recycling by using qualified service providers, providing accurate load details and retaining completed records. Georgia EPD publishes tire manifests and program guidance; South Carolina DES explains its waste-tire hauler and manifest requirements. Check the current rules that apply to your shipment.
